Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My diverse classroom is composed primarily of English Language Learners in a high poverty area. My students come from different academic, linguistic, and sociocultural backgrounds. They are eager learners who need time, understanding, and a friendly environment that gives them the security and opportunity to discover themselves and their world.

Most of my students start 2nd grade without knowing how to read or write.

Our school does not have a library, so it is in the classroom that students have the opportunity to read and listen to stories, to learn about their world and to discover how much they can do for the future.

My Project

Imagine seven-year-old children reading by themselves for the first time in their lives and discovering how exciting learning can be... Most of my students start 2nd grade without the ability to read or write. They need to work very hard to catch up with grade level books and content. Many of them do not have learning resources or school supplies at home; the classroom is their opportunity to explore the joy of reading and learning.

Being able to read and write at higher levels not only improves students' chances of success, but opens unlimited opportunities in life.

My classroom needs a friendly and more accessible learning environment, such as flexible seats and lap desks. My students need flexible seats where they can work independently on their on pace.

All my students live in a poverty area in the city. I want to give them the opportunity to experience a beautiful and fascinating world when they come to school. This way, we will be providing all students equal opportunities to learn and thrive. Please help me to offer my students a classroom that every child in the world should have!
