Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
While I'm not new to teaching, I will be new to teaching in my own room in high school. Every year I've taught high school has been in another teacher's classroom and I have a little cart that I use to go from room to room. Due to this, I've never set up/decorated my own space with materials needed for newcomer English learners in high school.
From posters to boarders I am in desperate need to make the room feel alive.
My students love how other classrooms are set up and have told me they don't like the rooms without decorations. The fact that all my students are newcomers to the United States and some have experienced limited formal education, I want their first experience to be positive and I believe it starts with their environment. I also am in need of binders, notebooks, and dry erase markers because we have run out for the year but will still continue to get new students until the end of the school year.
Bottom line, I want my students to feel that they are in a space where they belong and are welcomed and that includes their physical space and the materials that they use in class.
