My Project

Hello! My name is Kristine Heiman and I currently teach 4th and 5th grade special education students in Southern Illinois. My students love being able to interact with different materials in the classroom. The kids in my classroom would love to be able to use magazines to help enhance their reading abilities while learning about real-world issues.

When my students come into my classroom, they learn best when they have new and exciting materials to work with!

This helps not only with improving their academic ability but also keeps them engaged in the material.

The students in my classroom vary in ability levels. I can have a 5th grader who is reading at a first-grade level or a fourth-grade level. When my students are able to use the same material as their peers and still learn, they are so excited!

If I am able to add Scholastic News to my curriculum, the amount of engagement in the material will skyrocket. I will have kiddos who are excited to learn and not be frustrated that they don't get to do the same things as their peers. Also, as a teacher, getting to utilize the online resources and videos will only help to enhance the material that they are learning.
