My students need a school library, writing materials and miscellaneous supplies, like the Student Grouping Pencils, flashcards and a class set of glue, to help them start the new year off correctly.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year I have the distinct pleasure of serving freshmen and I am so excited about it. The only problem is I don't have the supplies I need to ensure my students are successful such as composition notebooks, writing materials and a novel library.
My students are new-to-high-school freshmen from an urban school in Texas much like the seniors I teach.
Like most freshmen, they are jovial and at times a little rambunctious. Our Title I school is 76% free-reduced lunch and predominately Black and Latino, so many of my students may not have the supplies they need to be successful in the classroom.
My Project
This is my first time teaching Pre-AP English, so I plan to use the same techniques I use to teach AP English IV, but the truth is, my freshmen need some different materials to help them rise to the level of expectations I have set in my classes. In my classroom, I use cooperative learning, centered-based instruction as well as Project Based Assessment and Problem Based Learning. Therefore, students need certain supplies to ensure their success. In order for my students to be successful, I need to create a reading and writing culture. I cannot do that without a library, writing materials and other miscellaneous supplies.
Your donations will help me ensure that all of my students have books to read, composition books to write in and miscellaneous materials (whether their parents can afford them or not).
It will also help my students gain the type of confidence that comes with having what is needed to complete tasks in a class. We all hope that you can help us with this project. It is so imperative that we have these materials as soon as possible so we can start our new year off right.
