My Students
My students have Autism Spectrum Disorders. All of them have unique ways of learning. They also have different things that motivate them to do their best. Some students love working with hands-on tasks. Some students love writing tasks. Others love completing tasks on the computer.
Our school is located in a low-income neighborhood.
Our students have a very good attendance rate. They love coming to school. We have some resources to engage them, but much more is needed. My students need resources that will engage them as well as help them make academic progress.
My Project
My students still need to learn basic skills. Therefore, they need materials to learn important concepts such as one to one correspondence, place value as well as learn how to build words and sentences. The magnetic materials that I am seeking will be used on a daily basis in small groups and during one to one instruction. Our students engage in center-based, hands-on learning every day, thus they will get a lot of use with these materials.
For example, our students are currently learning about place value.
This is a difficult concept to learn for my students without physical manipulatives to use for demonstration and practice. With the proper tools, my students will be able to show significant progress and show everyone that they are the best!
