My students need safe, heavy duty tools that they see being used in the real world so they can gain the confidence and experience needed to create things.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are tactile learners who need the satisfaction of creating things with their hands. They enjoy the idea of making things, and their curiosity guides them in their desire of wanting to know how things around them are made, how they work, and how they can fix them.
Most of my students come from an industrial area of Brooklyn, and will likely find jobs that require specific, industrial skills.
My goal is to help them explore these skills earlier on in their lives so they can enjoy the experience of learning.
My Project
The students that come to my after-school program are intellectually curious students who also need a more kinesthetic learning experience. They want to know how things are made, how they work, and how to fix them. They love taking things apart and putting them back together.
In a society where things are quickly disposed, I want to teach my students the importance of making things with their hands, and have them understand the importance and value in being a Maker, not just a consumer.
In the process, I also want them to take some time out of the day to step away from their screens and feel the joy of physically making things.
