This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with two programs and groups of students. The first program is a program for at promise minority students who are motivated, have a good attitude about learning ,and earn average grades in school but can benefit from additional support and resources. The purpose of this program is to assist students throughout their high school matriculation in becoming an active and competitive student in high school and beyond. This program provides students with support in academics, leadership development, mentorship, scholarship opportunities, and cultural activities.
My students are "at promise" minority students with challenges and struggles but with the potential to succeed given the additional support and resources.
The second group of students I work with are also "at promise" minority students who struggle in multiple areas, academics, attendance, and behavior. This program is designed to provide students with academic and social emotional support to be successful in high school and provide them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills.
My Project
The students I work with are “at-promise” and they are asked to stay after school, come in before school, and/or Saturdays for tutorials and enrichment opportunities. Although they are allowed to bring food and snacks, not all of them are able to. There are stores and fast food places outside the school but most of our students rely on free lunch and cannot afford to purchase snacks to eat outside of the school day.
I would love to have a classroom pantry of snacks for my students to be able to have a snack while working on their academics rather than be hungry and unable to concentrate.
More than half of students from low‑income households
