We are an at-risk preschool program housed in a Title I elementary school. Our students are creative, imaginative, and curious. We are always looking for new ways to help us learn math, handwriting, and science. Most of these students are unable to afford the rich preschool environment that they deserve.
Most students do not have access to learning materials or even an adult to read to them outside of our classroom.
We want to build a rich, learning-based environment in which our students are given the ability to explore math, science, and art concepts.
My class is hoping to purchase a kid only tablet for our classroom. This tablet will allow us to download audio books that the children will be able to independently read which will help our children during rest time make a better choice to sit and rest their bodies. Since many of our children do not have an adult to read to them every night this iPad would give our children some of the language that they are missing at home. This device would also be available during choice times were they could practice writing the letters in their name, which for most of our children is a struggle. While many children will fight to practice letters pen to paper, they all line up to practice when and I pad is on the table. The possibility for learning on and I pad is endless.
