My Students

I work in a smaller sized district not too far from Madison, WI. As a Reading Specialist I work with students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. Over half of the students at Jefferson Elementary are economically disadvantaged. In addition, many of the students I work with are learning English as a second language.

I work hard everyday to close the achievement gap my students experience and foster a love for reading and writing.

This project is aimed towards helping the kindergarten students I work with. I work with these students on a daily basis in small groups.

My Project

The Kindergarteners I work with are learning to read! We need books to help bridge the gap between learning how books work and making reading meaningful.

These books are the perfect way to engage my kindergarten students in reading for meaning while also learning how books work.

Our current book collection has very few titles with exciting story lines that students can relate to. The books in this project have a story line that children can relate to which makes reading more fun. The simple text also helps our most struggling readers succeed. Help build our library with meaningful engaging stories to be read by our youngest readers!
