Teacher Professional Development: I need to attend this writing workshop and participate in this writing course to further my knowledge of the common core writing curriculum. <profdevpilot>
"The secret of becoming a writer is to write, write and keep on writing" -Ken Mac Lead
When my fourth grade students walk into my room, most of them do not hesitate to share their dislike for writing. Many believe that it is boring and difficult. Writing is so much more than that.
I have been teaching 4th grade for three years in a small, rural Title I school.
I absolutely love the age and community I teach in! I have been very fortunate to attend several math workshops over these last few years. As a result, I gained a lot of knowledge and practice that I've applied in my classroom. I am hoping to do the same with writing.
My Project
I am requesting to attend a writing workshop on the Common Core Standards, a class that is specifically geared towards the common core standards in fourth grade and a chrome book to use to create lessons and submit my work through. As I have gained an immense amount of knowledge through other workshops, I believe that attending this writing workshop and participating in the writing class will further my knowledge of the standards and how to implement best practices in my classroom. Strengthening my writing lessons has also been a professional goal of mine and I feel that this project will help me reach my goal of providing my students with a writing program that I will feel confident teaching.
This project will help enhance my knowledge of teaching writing, and more specifically, using the Common Core curriculum.
I will come away with specific ideas on how to implement a writing workshop in my room, how to teach the writing process, including using technology and appropriate writing assessments. I believe this opportunity will provide my students with engaging lessons that will change my their perspective of writing and develop confident and fluent writers.
