Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a school in Little Village, a predominately Mexican neighborhood in the Southwest Side of Chicago. The school I work in is composed of the majority Latino students with their first language being Spanish. In the years I have worked as a teacher, the students I have had come in every day with a lot of energy, many questions and ready to learn.

Fourth grade is a very exciting year for students.

Throughout the fourth grade, students learn to become independent learners. Furthermore, throughout fourth grade, students become exposed to the many genres as well as many reading and writing skills. One of the very exciting things of being in fourth grade is that students become independent readers. By the end of fourth grade, students leave being exposed to many different genres of books. They also leave the fourth grade loving books and learning new reading and writing strategies.

My Project

I would love to have all the books listed. The books will help me further develop as a teacher in the subject areas of reading, writing, and math. The books selected are books on how to teach guided reading, the books target specific skills I have to teach at certain developmental stages. I would love to have the books because they come with pre-made lessons for guided reading.

The books in this list will help me further develop my teaching style.

I cannot wait to receive the books to start planning this upcoming school year. Furthermore, the books in guided math will help me get started in guided math. I have attended professional developments in guided reading and I would love to learn more about guided math and what better way to learn about this subject area than to read about guided math first before attending a professional development on guided math. Finally, the last book I picked out is on writing strategies. Writing is a very big component of the reading workshop and I would love to improve my writing practice. I am looking forward to receiving the books to start planning this upcoming school year.
