it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My occupational therapy students are motivated, engaged, and curious students whose developmental delays inhibit their ability to independently participate in daily classroom routines and activities. These challenges can affect them in a variety of ways, including fine motor development, visual-perceptual development, hand-eye coordination, handwriting development, sensory processing abilities, and difficulties with attention.
My students love to showcase the skills they learn in the therapy room during their classroom work.
I have found that the best way for my students to learn a new skill is to practice it across a variety of mediums. This might include a developmental game, arts and crafts, gross motor play, obstacle courses, imaginary play, sensory exploration, and direct practice with a functional skill. Many of my students do not get the opportunity to practice these skills outside of the school day which makes the time we spend together in the therapy room that much more important!
My Project
This year, I'm asking for a different type of DonorsChoose.org project for my students. I am looking to give them some much deserved fun! My students have gone up against the odds during remote learning, and have worked incredibly hard in their therapy sessions despite the masks, gloves, plastic barriers, and social distance. This year, I want to reward their resilience with some much deserved play time!
I am asking for a wide variety of developmental toys that will help my students to reach their developmental milestones, but will put a smile on their face while they learn.
