This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a low-income, high crime area. Many of my students see things daily at home that I could not even imagine dealing with as an adult, much less as a 9 or 10 year old student. This is one of the main reasons I want to make learning fun and engaging for my students.
School is a place of refuge for many of my students and I want to make them want to be here.
My students love having a cozy, student-centered learning environment.
My Project
As you may know I had the GREAT privilege of attending the The Ron Clark Academy last May. It was absolutely one of the most formative experiences of my teaching career. This summer some colleagues and I are hoping to attend the National Get Your Teach On Conference in Dallas, TX. This conference is led in part by Hope King who works at The Ron Clark Academy. This conference focuses on engaging students in non-conventional ways. With all of the changes I was able to make in my classroom after two days at The Ron Clark Academy I know I would be able to improve my teaching and classroom practices even more after a 4 day experience with Get Your Teach On!
