My Students

I teach at a Title I school where 50% of the population comes from low-income households, 1% is homeless and 18% has special education services. My school services the whole state of Utah, because it is an online charter school. This means almost everything we do is online, except for one outing a month where we get to see each other face to face. This benefits many students who have struggled in the typical classroom setting and brings an option that can be really beneficial for some students.

I specifically teach the language arts standards and absolutely love it!

We get all into reading and writing. Even though we don't get together face to face every day, we get to see each other on the computer. We have created a close classroom environment where students feel safe to share their ideas, accomplishments, and failures with each other.

The part I love about my job the most is creating a love of reading in every student. The students come to me at all different reading levels and I try to get them on reading level before leaving my classroom, because I believe that reading is one of the most important skills.

My Project

I have been teaching for almost 14 years and I am constantly looking for ways to enhance my teaching and increase student engagement. This conference is jam-packed with ways to do both. The unique thing about this certain conference is that they don't take the rigor away while adding the engagement. That is just what my students need!

The students I teach deserve to have a high quality education that challenges them and gets them excited about learning.

I believe this program can offer that opportunity for them. I would love to attend this conference and transform my classroom!
