My Project

I work with a population of students who have, in some cases, very specific needs in order to focus. Mainly, they need to be low to the ground. I work in a gifted and talented classroom which sounds very easy. It’s actually quite challenging. In this population, there are many students “percentage-wise” who have ADD or ADHD. For them, sitting can be a challenge as they need to move around more than your average child. It can also be dangerous and distracting as they try to balance chairs on one leg or lean back too far. They need seating close to the floor and a table that is stable.

I want to create an area where these children can work effectively throughout the day in a space that exists from day one of the school year.

This space can be used by these students during instruction and also during project work. This accommodation helps keep the classroom environment regulated. Our school district does not provide alternative seating despite the obvious need, even in our specialized classroom.
