This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently teach pre-k to students with disabilities. My students all have disabilities, and some are diagnosed with autism. My students have varied needs and require additional support. Some students need help to learn concepts and skills like number sense and letter recognition. However, most of my students need assistance to learn how to focus and learn in class. A way I find that helps my students is by incorporating art in class. Being able to draw, paint, create helps my students express themselves, imagine new worlds and in short motivates them.
My students all have disabilities and they face many challenges when learning, especially because they have difficulty focusing on their lessons.
My students do not learn the way other students learn. They need additional help and support. In order to help them be calm, focused and ready to learn I need additional resources.
Please help my students have the resources to imagine a whole new world. They need paper and paint.
My Project
I work with 3 and 4 year old students with disabilities. They encounter different challenges while learning but one of the most difficult is being able to focus to actually participate in class. If my students are unable to pay attention then they will not be able to learn.
Learning how to focus is one of the most important things my students need to do, and having items like a sensory ball or a weighed lap pillow may help.
For my students, sometimes there are sensory issues that make it difficult for them to pay attention to what I am teaching. Giving them a fidget toy such as a sensory ball or theraputty may make it easier for them to focus... and learn.
