This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a 10th grade team, we are starting to read Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds. Jason Reynolds was the 2020-2022 National Ambassador for Young People's Literature and has won awards from the Newberry to the Loretta Scott award, and we are excited to introduce this literature to our students. We don't have books though. We only have PDFs. It would be a huge help to have physical books.

Many studies have indicated that critical thinking and comprehension skills are increased when a person is reading a physical book instead of reading on a screen.

We work in a school where many students are struggling with reading and need that additional boost to improve their overall skills. By helping us purchase physical books, we will be able to better share this literature with our students.
