My Project

I am moving to a new building and have a great opportunity to create a new space for the students in this building. My role as an intervention specialist requires having a place to meet with students either one on one or in small groups to work on social-emotional learning. One of my goals is to create a calming corner where students can reflect and learn about feelings and emotions that they might have. I want this space to be comfortable and safe, to provide a calm space to help children regulate their bodies so they can go back to their classrooms and continue their learning.

Having a corner in the room where students can read on their own and learn about the feeling that they’re having is a great way to give them space and then talk about what they are feeling.

The floor pillows, Little SPOT book set, rug, and other items will help create this safe space.

Another goal for my room is creating small groups where students can collaborate together to understand how to build relationships, how to manage emotions, or learning to work with others. The storage cabinet and file cabinet will allow students to access materials for these small groups easily and independently.
