This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school where 85% of our students come from a low socioeconomic status. Most of the families I serve have working parents with little or no education. Comprised of mostly minorities, our school has a spirit of unity that shines through. We are a large family nearing 900 students; however, the passion for learning is felt when you walk through the doors. Specifically, I work with children with special needs in grades K through 5th. My students are loving and kind and have real determination.
My Project
This project will significantly impact my students with special needs by creating a space for them to process and problem solve. Donations for this project will help students with special needs by giving them opportunities for redirection and processing. These supplies will enable me to create a positive environment and help transition students with special needs back to the general education setting. My students need light shades, Theraputty, a dry erase magnetic pocket chart and other supplies. With the proper tools, I anticipate the students I serve will have less down time and more engagement in the general education setting. I'm looking forward to providing my students with replacement behaviors and social skills development in group and direct instruction settings.
