This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My mathletes are the best of the best! We are working so hard to learn and love math! I love my students because even though they are socio-economically disadvantaged, they are still driven and determined to do their best! Their test scores prove that they rise above all the challenges they face!

Students learn best when engaged in their lessons, which is what a thinking classroom does!

Professor Liljedahl did 15 years of research in dozens of different classrooms and discovered the best way to get students thinking about math. Unlike in a more traditional classroom, where the lesson might start with direct instruction from the teacher, a typical day in a Thinking Classroom begins with the teacher assigning thinking tasks for students to work on in groups, at vertical non-permanent surfaces, and direct instruction is only given on an as-needed basis. In order to achieve this magical transformation, we take our vertical nonpermanent surfaces (also known as whiteboards) and use them with all these supplies that go with them!
