Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our class are a great group of children. Despite all of their learning disabilities, academic delays, and emotional disturbances, they are enthusiastic about learning new things.
This class is an ICT 3rd grade class, which includes Special Education and General Education Students.
Their academic levels ranges from first grade level to the end of second grade level.
It saddened me to know that even though they are in the 3rd grade they are not academically prepared for the demands they are facing in the 3rd grade. Our goal is to enrich them and build a strong academic foundation especially in phonics and reading with the appropriate materials.
My Project
As a special education educator I am faced with the challenge of teaching students with learning disabilities and reading difficulties. There are a variety of levels within one grade (class) with the goal of getting them all to read at grade level. The materials will be used to build phonics skills and reading comprehension skills needed to succeed in reading.
Differentiated phonics activities, reading comprehension daily practice folders and leveled sight word practice cards, can help me help my students read.
My struggling students will be able to improve their phonics skills and use those skills to read grade level appropriate materials and become successful and enthusiastic young readers. When students are confident we see success not disabilities.
With your donation I will be helping struggling students become better readers. The differentiating reading RTI Instructional book will allow me to generate the grade appropriate lessons to help my students. The phonics learning centers will help set a foundation of reading and the reading comprehension intervention activities will help focus on grade level reading strategies. With your help reading will not be a struggle any more.
