This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students a Columbia Heights are some of the most hard working, engaged, and creative student in DC Public Schools. Their ability to manage rigorous curriculum and explore and expand their own creativity is truly remarkable. In addition, many of our students think outside of the box in regards to their future jobs and opportunities while understanding that that their music education will only serve to enrich and enhance their lives. Students also use the music program as an expressive outlet.

My Project

If we receive funding students will have a chance to continue studying piano throughout the semester. Without them, students will go to a text based curriculum, and they will not have the chance to learn the piano. Students each year beg to take my piano class, and it will be such a disappointment if they cannot continue learning on the piano. Music has often been a salve during hard times, and I know that these keyboards in students' homes would make a big difference. The difference would not only be for their musical learning, but they would also provide a healthy activity to help them cope with all the changes that are impacting them right now.
