Our classroom is housed in an Ohio city school with different developmental and physical needs children. I feel this teaches my children that no matter the degree of ones ability they can always grow and succeed. They also learn love and acceptance for everyone.
We have 34 wonderful children that come from low income families.
They are ages 3-5 with varying degrees of experiences.
We are seeing more kids with sensory issues. It is my goal to get my children to a place were they can self-regulate their emotions and their bodies so they will be able to learn academically.
They are working hard on using their words and self regulation techniques to handle the stress they are feeling. We do this by using Conscious Discipline. We use breathing techniques and sensory tools to help us self regulate.
My Project
I believe it is important to teach children to regulate their emotions in an appropriate manner so that their bodies are able to learn. Some children become overwhelmed and need a way to calm their bodies. We would use the light table for a calm quiet place for them to go and regulate. We would also utilize the wobble chairs to sit at the table for those children who find it hard to sit in one spot while they learn.
To have a successful academic experience one must be able to regulate in those tough periods of time were they are required to sit still.
We are asking for fidget tools. They can keep their hands busy while the rest of their body is able to sit and learn.
