This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4 and 5 year-old students attend an all-day Transitional Kindergarten class in a Title I school where all students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members work hard to earn California Blue Ribbon Awards and National Recognition for a High Performing School.
My students are happy, eager learners with inquisitive minds about their surroundings and the world; for many of them, this is their first school experience, so there is always grand curiosity and excitement to try new things!
They love books read to them, they love singing and dancing, they love acting out favorite stories, they love puzzles and games, they love participating in phonological awareness lessons, they love recognizing the alphabet letters, they love knowing the letter sounds to read and write words, and they love recognizing sight words to develop as readers.
My Project
My TK students are eager to explore the world of literacy by becoming a reader through fun and engaging pre-reading activities.
Reading is the key to academic success!
The Phonics Games will help set the foundation of reading during center time when children are paired up with a thinking partner and learn phonics concepts that are critical for emergent reading skills like letter identification and letter sound correspondence. The Tactile Letter Cards will help kinesthetic learners touch the formation of letters, the Alpha-bots will engage learners in manipulating movable parts to make it into a fun "letter" robot, and Alphabet Puzzles will support visual and kinesthetic learners learn the sequence of the alphabet. Young children need multiple exposure to grasp new concepts and these resources will surely make learning the letter so alphabet fun and a success!
