We are a brand new school in a growing community in Katy, TX! The students are a fun group with lots of energy who love learning and having fun while doing it! They've come together from different backgrounds and schools and are so excited to greet each new day!
We had a crazy start to last year when Hurricane Harvey arrived and flooded our neighborhoods after only a week and a half of school.
We missed 11 days of school in the first month! Many students were displaced due to the storm and its aftermath and all of our lives were affected. Despite the challenging start to our year, the students have weathered the storm and came out on top.
My Project
I have been a Special Education teacher for my 6 years in education. This year, I will be teaching 3rd grade Reading and Writing. I am so excited to help these students have maximum growth. The problem is that I do not have the items needed for a classroom. My Third grade students will be full of energy and excitement! Students often lose focus sitting still for long duration of time especially in the traditional desks and chairs.
Flexible seating alternatives which includes bouncy balls, bean bag chairs and floor cushions along with portable lap desks can help students remain attentive and engaged, allowing for more learning to take place.
In addition to flexible seating, allowing students to work in groups at the tables helps to build their collaboration skills. These skills will help them as students in the classroom, and adults in the real world someday. Setting my students up for success both in and outside of the classroom is one of my top priorities as their teacher.
