This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine partner reading miles away utilizing the same book? Students will be able to share what they read and discuss real world connections by using Skype in the classroom.
My 29 students are kindergarteners who are very interested in the world around them.
They are inquisitive and they have a lot of theories as to why things are the way they are. Unfortunately, most of my students have not experienced a lot of what our city and the world has to offer. Most of my students come from a lower economic background and their life experiences can be very limited. Vocabularies are built by life experiences. A limited vocabulary effects students in many subjects: writing, reading and comprehension, science, and math.
My Project
My students enjoy reading fiction and nonfiction books and making connections. I want to enhance their learning by providing an opportunity to connect with other students around the world using Skype. This will allow my students to Skype into classrooms and create another world of reading. Currently we using on a standard monitor screen. It is difficult for the children to view the screen well, as it is too small. By using the Acer notebook connected to the big monitor screen, the students will be able to listen to authors, meet pen pals or engage in other interactive opportunities to learn. This will provide practice for basic skills or an opportunity to extend their learning. Students will be able to to create books, movies, and other exciting possibilities.
Providing a Flat-Panel LED monitor for my students will offer engaging educational opportunities.
My students will have the opportunity to meet people all over the world through Skype. Their learning and engagement will soar to new levels with the desktop as we Skype in the classroom.
