This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help capture children's imaginations with reading! Scholastic Storyworks Magazines provides fun and interesting stories that will grasp students' attention. This magazine is correlated to common core, includes poems, plays, grammar, nonfiction and fiction articles! Wow! Who wouldn't love to read?

My fifth graders are very hard working, respectful, and cheerful students.

They enjoy learning and seem to be really into informational text. It is hard to provide them with informational text due to the lack of materials at the school. This is a high poverty school in a suburb in Illinois. Students receive both free breakfast and lunch. Materials are very scarce and providing my class with this magazine will help them strive and gain the skills they need in order to accomplish great goals in life.

My Project

This magazine will help my students improve their reading skills. They have a hard time comprehending both fiction and nonfiction texts. Exposing them to a variety of texts will help them become better readers. They will be well informed about our world and be able to discuss real life events. This magazine is also correlated to common core which most states have already adapted. Our school just recently adapted these standards and it is a hard transition without the right materials to teach. This magazine will help me teach common core standards and help expose my students with a variety of texts. It will help them enjoy reading the variety of texts that are interesting and captures their attention. They will be able to read informational texts, poetry, and work on their writing skills since this magazine also includes grammar. Students will use several reading skills that the magazine provides and will become better readers.

This magazine is very important to include in the curriculum.

The textbooks the students are using now are not aligned to common core standards. In order to help them reach their full potential they need to be exposed to all sorts of reading materials. This magazine does a wonderful job by providing differentiaton so that all students at different levels can read with understanding. Students will be exposed to rich vocabulary and be well educated on current events around the world.
