My school is located in a small rural town near the coast of South Carolina. My school is a Title I elementary school serving over 800 students with most students receiving free lunch and breakfast. Even though most of our students do not have much, they are kind and generous with what they do have. Our small town was hit hard by historical flooding in 2015 and many still have not recovered fully. Many of the homes that have been repaired still faced flooding impacts during Hurricane Matthew and most recently Hurricane Florence due to poor drainage issues that are still unsolved.
Our school may be the largest elementary in our district, but we still have a family feeling and strive each day to make someone else's day just a little better.
My Project
I am one of the technology troubleshooters for our school. We recently received 56 iPads, however, our purchase did not include protective cases or headphones.
Having iPads available for school wide use will be something very new for our students, especially our youngest learners that work better with touchscreens.
Our students are used to having access to Chromebook computers but very few of our teachers have been able to attain iPads for use in their classrooms. Those that have were only able to do so through projects posted to DonorsChoose.org. Our Pre-K teachers are very excited about having the opportunity to have a small number of iPads in their classes set up as a technology center for the students to rotate through. The students and teachers alike are very excited to be able to begin using them but they need protection first. The additional headphones will be used with the iPads as well as with the Chromebooks carts that we have.
While these iPads will be used throughout our school, I will be responsible for their upkeep and security, which is why I am the one appealing to you for help in protecting a much desired technology tool. Please help us to get these iPads into the hands of students anxious to begin using them.
