My Project

Every student deserves to walk into a classroom that feels safe, welcoming, and full of possibility. For my students in deep East Oakland—where all of them live below the poverty line and the vast majority are Black and Brown youth—school isn’t just a place to learn. It’s a place to exhale. To feel safe. To imagine a future full of hope.

Right now, the world feels especially heavy for our kids.

Creating a classroom that feels calm, comforting, and beautiful is more than a nice idea—it’s a necessity.

My students deserve a space where their nervous systems can rest. Where soft lighting, fake plants, wobble stools, and walls filled with affirming messages remind them they are valued. For many, this classroom might be the only environment in their day that feels peaceful, stable, and made just for them.

When students feel safe and grounded, they can think more clearly, take academic risks, and express their full selves. A beautiful classroom isn’t just about decorations—it’s about healing, dignity, and belonging.
