Help Make My School Library the Talk of the Playground
Help me give my students books that will capture their interest, teach them about other cultures, show them parts of themselves, help them navigate the challenges of middle school, and hook them into reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am requesting high-interest books, mostly graphic novels, that will capture my students' interest and spark a love of reading. My classroom has become the unofficial school library (our school doesn't have a library outside of individual classrooms), and many students, even those whom I don't teach, come to my room at recess to check out a book.
As a special education teacher, it is crucial to offer my students highly engaging books that even struggling and/or reluctant readers will be excited to try.
The books I have chosen are super engaging and will appeal to a wide variety of readers at different reading levels. I picked several books that feature children of color, particularly Latinx kids, as protagonists so that my students can see themselves reflected in the books they read. I also chose books that are appropriate for older students who are reading at a lower level.
It is often difficult to find books that will appeal to upper-elementary and middle-school students who are still learning to read, but in my experience, graphic novels are incredibly popular with all readers, no matter their level. With your help, my students will come back to school in the Fall to be greeted by an upgraded library that contains some of their special requests, and I'll be able to match every student with a book they'll love.
