Our class is filled with students with exceptionalities who are excited to learn functional skills. "Learning by doing" is the quote which best describes our environment. By the end of the year we hope that students will be able to transfer this knowledge into the real world.
Our students have diverse diagnosis, however, they never give up trying!
Having proper supplies to build up their language and math skills along with materials that enhance functional skills our students will grow in the area of confidence. Currently, we take our students on community based instruction field trips so that they have a real world example that reinforce the lessons we have in class. This energetic group of curious kids love to demonstrate for others how well they can order off a menu, check out at a store and perform simple chores. We are so excited that you are partnering with us to ensure we can continue preparing students for these opportunities.
Our student body includes those who are deaf and hard of hearing. The sign language cards will be used to help them communicate with none deaf students and staff as well as those we encounter on our field trips. The Dyna Math set and Ready to Go material will help students build math and language skills. Students will be able to communicate effectively and have a general understanding of math.
Your donation will improve our classroom by providing items we currently do not have that are much needed.
It will change the student's lives by ensuring they have been taught the appropriate concepts to transfer into the real world. Living independently will be possible for many of the students we service. It is best to begin teaching those concepts now. Being able to read a grocery store ad, understand price comparison and how to prepare a simple meal are all included in life skills.
