My students need 4 Kindle Fires and protective cases.
Read anything good lately? I am an avid reader and love that I have the opportunity to instill the love of reading to my 4th and 5th grade students. I would love to give my students the opportunity to have great books at their fingertips.
The children in my classes have a thirst for learning.
However, we lack some of the basic necessities. The poverty level is high in the neighborhood where I teach and a large percentage of the children qualify for free lunch. In addition, the district where I teach is facing a major budget crisis. Sadly, the library at my school has a limited number of books, and we have no librarian. Therefore, the children do not have an opportunity to check books out to read at school.
The students in my classes can use the Kindles with cases in a variety of ways. They can be used for guided reading groups. The students can practice using the dictionary feature to look up words they are unfamiliar with. Struggling students can turn on the text to speech feature and have the Kindle read the book to them. In addition, I can send PDF and Word files to the Kindle via email. This will also help because our school is facing a major paper shortage. By using the Kindles, the students are increasing their love of reading, as well as being provided the opportunity to gain experience with digital tools.
Your help in providing the students in my classes with a digital learning tool like the Kindle Fire and cases will help them not only improve their reading skills, but also gain experience and become competent using digital tools, which will have a major impact on their lives.
Thank you for helping to give them the opportunity to become 21st Century citizens!
