My students are residents of the Gulf Coast region. They are well aware of the environmental challenges we face here. Many of them have seen images on the news and in the papers that are disturbing. They love the birds, fishes and other marine animals, yet feel that they cannot do anything to help.
I teach talented children at two public schools.
These students have all been identified as having artistic ability. They range in age from seven to twelve but all are capable of producing beautiful original works of art. Some of them have sold artwork for modest prices, created commissions or donated work to beloved staff members. Their paintings and drawings are desirable. These children love to draw and paint birds, fishes and other animals.
I have prepared a "visual library" of "animals of the gulf" images for them to use as a reference in creating their own new original images this year. A previous project that was funded will provide the children with paint, paper and other materials to create artworks with. They are ready to create!
My Project
These children are ready to create paintings and drawings of pelicans, turtles, gulls and other marine animals they are familiar with, animals that they have seen plastered all over the news. They will be able to exhibit this work thanks to our parent liaison, who has secured the commitment of a local business to allow us to exhibit work from this project. The only thing missing are frames to professionally display the artwork. Thus this proposal. With this exhibition, the children can help their environment by raising money for the Gulf Coast Restoration Network.
This project will empower the children by demonstrating that despite their young age, they can do something to help their community.
They will also learn that their artwork is meaningful and beautiful to others.
