This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have incredible, enthusiastic young people who truly need support at school to be successful and do their best! Our school believes deeply in teaching the whole child and the classroom is the first step for our kids to learn about the larger world.

This has been an incredibly challenging year and anything we can do to increase involvement for our kids has incredible impact.

Our kids are amazing, creative and motivated young people who are really excited about learning!

We live in a high-needs New York community where a larger percentage of our school's population are English learners and considered "economically disadvantaged." In spite of the obstacles in their lives outside of school, my students are always eager to learn and I strive to create an environment in which success through continued education becomes achievable.

My Project

This garden will support blended learning with our student son site as well as our remote students. So many of our kids have no learned how to grow and garden and have so little opportunity to work and learn with plants.

Students both learning remotely as well as those learning in the classroom will be able to interact with this hydroponics unit, spanning the entire school year as what kids learn indoors will then be taken out and worked on in our outdoor garden space.

The hydroponics system requested in this project will support the changing of plant production during varied seasons, under varied climate conditions, and allow students to understand nutrient needs of plants, how to control scientific variables and to learn gardening and science in the most effective hands-on way we can.
