My students need 17 Around the World magazines and 1 World atlas to learn about world cultures & geography and see/understand how children in other countries live.

My Students

When you live in the rural farming areas of corn and bean fields, it is hard to imagine how kids in other countries around the world live. Understanding of diverse cultures, geography, language, music, and climate is difficult for kids who rarely have any experience of them.

My third grade students come from a rural Illinois district that has a high poverty and unemployment rate.

Some of my students are transient and have been moved from school to school due to parent needs and difficult circumstances. Still, they are bright and eager to learn and enjoy the classroom adventure.

My Project

In a small, rural school district we have so little funding available that it is challenging to provide teachers and students with up-to-date maps and materials. This has been particularly true when it comes to world geography and keeping apace of the changes in our world. All students should learn about the world in which they live and have an understanding of what the daily life of children in other countries is like.

Having access to the world through the "Time For Kids: Around the World" is one way to ignite the minds and imaginations of my students.

They will explore many countries and complete a WebQuest created to expand on what they have learned at the end of the school year. The 2010 student edition world atlas will be a valuable resource that will be utilized for years to come. Please show you value a worldly education for needy students by supporting this small but important project.
