Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a dynamic space where students share ideas and engage in rigorous academic discourse.
My fifth graders are eager learners, enthusiastic, and inquisitive about the world around them.
They absolutely deserve the best, but limited resources both at the school and in the community make it challenging to provide them with everything they need to be successful scholars. Approximately 80% of the students at my school are English learners, 20% newcomers to the country, and over 95% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
As we are approaching winter, the weather outside is getting colder. Although our state is known for great weather year-round, it does actually get cold during late fall and winter. This week alone it's been quite chilly. Most students are just wearing thin sweatshirts outside and have chapped lips.
It's hard to concentrate at school if you are cold.
I would love for each student to have a knitted beanie and gloves to keep them warm outside during recess and in class, as well as lip balm to help heal their chapped lips. Having these items will not only warm up my students, but it will also help them feel more comfortable and loved.
