My Students

While my students come from high poverty backgrounds, the challenges they may face on a daily basis have not affected their passion for learning. I teach multiple subjects in a self-contained gifted 7th and 8th grade where my students have a love for learning and are excited to come to school each day.

My students have an desire to learn and I strive to create an environment that is relevant and engaging to them.

I try my best to provide my with students with resources and activities to set them up for success.

My Project

Getting middle schoolers who once loved reading but no longer find it interesting can be a difficult task. I teach students of diverse backgrounds and this year I have worked really hard to help find more literature that is culturally relevant, exciting and engaging to my students. I have purchased some literature for my classroom that is culturally relevant and I am unable to keep these books on the shelves.

By donating to my project, you will help my students to become "readers" once again by helping me find books my students won't want to set down and instilling in them a love of reading!

I have found that culturally diverse books help to instill in my students a passion for reading and a love of literature.

I need more books that my students won't want to set down to help instill in them a love of reading! I would love to have more highly engaging middle school books to be used by students in lit. circles in my classroom. We will not only be reading these books but students weekly meet with their peers to discuss the books that their groups are reading.
