Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are becoming bilingual. They are learning English as their second language. They range in age from 4 to 10 in transitional kindergarten through 5th grade. They are students who come from different backgrounds but are still alike in many ways. They all speak a language other than English, live in the same high-poverty, high-crime area, and attend school daily. Our school has a great average daily attendance rate and the suspension rate is low.
My students do not all speak the same language or share the same religion, but they do feel the same feelings.
I see the same tears when they feel hurt and the same smiles when they feel happy. We practice speaking, listening to, reading, and writing in English every day in our class.
My Project
My students want to write, but it's not easy. Many of them are often distracted by other things and find it hard to stay focused on the project they are working on. Privacy shields are especially important when we use them during our writing time and testing.
When my students use a privacy shield they are able to focus their attention on their work.
Currently, we only have five privacy shields that another teacher let us borrow and two of those have holes.
My class would really benefit from having their own privacy shield instead of standing a textbook up to work behind. Please donate to my project and help my students focus on their writing.
