The students come to school happy, energetic and ready to start the day. My students love school, learning new things and exploring their environment. They are an awesome group of students despite their disabilities with communication. I teach severe and profound, intellectually delayed students.
Most of my students come from low income families.
Our school is a Title One school with grades pre-k through fifth. My school is a nurturing and caring environment. The staff members and students interact and embrace my students daily.
The materials I am requesting are essential for my students. I teach students that are physically and mentally incapable of taking care of themselves. My students have to take lots of medication and most of them are on feeding tubes. When their clothes are soiled, we can change them but sometimes, it is not that simple. As teachers we go out and buy hygiene materials to help keep the students as clean as possible until they get home or until they are picked up by their parents. We also squeeze in a simple hygiene class during the school day. The students love to participate and we need supplies to continue. We try to teach the students how to brush their teeth and the importance of staying neat and clean. Materials such as soap, lotion toothpaste and deodorant would benefit my students greatly. On rainy days, my students get soaked from coming down on the wheelchair lift. If my students had raincoats and rain ponchos, it would minimize colds and respiratory issues.
