This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember reading classic novels in school such as Black Beauty, Charlotte's Web, or the Chronicles of Narnia? Well, in my classroom, my students love to read! They enjoy reading on floor and sitting together as we read our novels out loud. Reading is everywhere especially in our classroom!

I have two groups of students that I teach reading and language arts to this year.

In one of my classes, I have 25 gifted students from various backgrounds. They have a thirst for knowledge and enjoy being challenged! They are eager to learn about the world around them and enjoy reading very much! They also enjoy researching and sharing their findings with the class. My second group has 19 students. This class is very diverse. Some of the students are ESOL level 1 students, which means they are new to our country and do not speak any English. Others are still learning English and some are struggling with the demands of 3rd grade. Those students that do speak English are welcoming and helpful with the new students. Our school has been enrolling new students each day. Many are coming from other states and countries.

My Project

Both of my classes love to read! They would truly appreciate and value a new classroom rug and a pencil sharpener. We like to read novels and read aloud on the floor. But with the new rug, they would be more comfortable as we read and discuss ideas about the books we are reading. The classroom carpet would also create a warm environment more conducive to learning. Also, at this time, we are reading Charlotte's Web with the gifted class. Another novel I want to read with them is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe from the Chronicles of Narnia. That is a classic book not to be missed, since it captivates the reader's attention from beginning to end! Unfortunately, the class set we have at our school is falling apart after 16 years, so we desperately need a new class set. By receiving this novel, my students will be challenged with rich vocabulary and be reading one of the best novels filled with vivid images and exemplary writing,

The donation of a new class set of the novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will expose them to one of the finest examples of writing. Finally, your donation of an electric sharpener is extremely necessary in a classroom that has over 40 students that write each day.
