My students need a new clarinet and trumpet so we can keep the band marching.
This project expired on May 19, 2012.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
With the budget cuts in education there is little if any money available for the arts. We have to purchase instruments a few at a time, but we never seem to be able to have what we actually need. Many of our brass and woodwind instruments are missing keys or the valves or slides do not work.
Our students are hard-working young people.
Most are interested in trying to become better musicians even though many have never had a music lesson in their life. They live in a low income area and many will be the first in their family to attend college. They work hard in their academic classes so that they maintain their grades and are well on their way to high school graduation and college admission.
With this new clarinet and trumpet we will be better prepared for the many performances we have each year. We will be able to continue to perform and entertain the thousands that see us each year. The students will learn responsibility and be able to take pride in having instruments they do not have to be ashamed of.
Your donations will help students see that others are interested in young people doing positive things, instead of hanging out in the streets.
As young adults this should also show them that reaching out to help others can be rewarding for both parties involved. Later as adults, we hope they will reciprocate this experience for others.
