Like most developing teenagers, my middle school math students are prone to distraction. Our current tables make a lot of noise, even though I have tightened all moving parts. My goal for getting new tables is to quiet the squeak so those that like the noise will concentrate on their learning and those that don't like the noise can concentrate on their learning. The tables I chose are shaped more conducive to students facing the front of the classroom easier. They can be pushed together for cooperative learning, or separated for space. Cooperative learning and movement during learning are two of my goals for classroom routines next year.
My students are awesome!
They have inquisitive minds, great ideas, cooperative natures, and fun senses of humor. They also have busy bodies that can come in to school pretty tired at that early hour. My goal with flexible seating is to allow movement for those that need to move and create movement for those that need that brain connection and energy. Students will be able to regulate their bodies to open their minds to learning.
These tables and flexible seating will make a difference in the way students interact with their learning. They will be able to concentrate, collaborate, regulate, and learn in ways they won't realize are beneficial, while hopefully having a good time!
