My Students

I have a classroom of innovative, thoughtful, and curious students. My students are, simply put, amazing. They are collaborative and risk-takers. We emphasize the growth mindset and work on teaching the whole child. My students understand that sometimes being kind is as important as reading.

We believe that everyone in our classroom has something to teach us and sometimes the best learning is done in groups through discussion.

The fifth graders in my classroom are the next generation of leaders.

My Project

In my 5th grade class, I try to promote authentic reading experiences. Reading to take answer questions correctly or take a test does not inspire true readers. Instead, my students participate in book clubs and discuss books in a more meaningful way.

Book clubs are an exciting part of my classroom.

Students love being able to discuss what they are reading. It is one of the most treasured parts of the week. In order to keep book clubs fresh and authentic, we need to have access to a variety of books. By having different books it gives students the choice to decide what they will read.
