My students are falling in love with reading and math! And we've been resourceful with only 2 outdated computers. Imagine what we could do with 2 iPads! We want to join the rest of the world in the digital era. For many of my students their only technological opportunities are at school.
I am a tenth year Kindergarten teacher in a low-income public school in Oakland, Ca.
Over 70% of our student population qualifies for the federally funded breakfast/lunch program. I teach a variety of students from a multitude of different cultures: Philipino, African American, Ethiopian, Arabic,Chinese, and Hispanic.
My Project
Having a iPads in my classroom would help create a new learning experience for my students. At the touch of their fingers they would be able to listen to stories, practice sight words and reading, manipulate letters and sounds, use math applications to solve problems, create and record stories of their own as well as learn fine motor skills, social studies, and science. The list could go on and on. I will also be able to differentiate for students' needs and learning styles. Since equity is essential in my classroom, ALL/EACH/EVERY student would benefit and get to use the iPads for their unique learning interests and needs. The iPads will be used in a well-planned way to motivate and support my students' learning, specifically in literacy and math centers.
My students would really enjoy learning with an iPad.
There are so many possibilities an iPad would give to my students. We will be giving them access and opportunity to new technology in a media driven world. Please help make this dream come true.
