This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in California's Central Valley, a rich agricultural area that helps feed the nation. Many of our families work directly in agriculture or indirectly in areas like transportation and processing. Most of our students qualify for the free or reduced lunch program and rely on the many services that our school and district provide.

My students aim high, persevere, and always give 100%.

They are curious and seek opportunities for intellectual growth. They seek a pathway to success and trust that I will help them find it.

My Project

My students use calculators on a daily basis and our class set is showing its age. We share calculators throughout the day and the level of use has taken its toll. The rechargeable batteries are failing and some of the keypads no longer work. It's tough to solve a problem when the #3 key does not work.

Effective technology use enriches curriculum and provides a platform for extending problem depth.

I strive to teach students appropriate calculator usage and monitor that they do not use it as a crutch. Our Labs and Investigations come alive with technology. We accomplish more and are able to share our work that is not possible using traditional methods. I am excited about having a complete set of functioning calculators in my classroom.
