I teach in a Title I school district, where most of my students live in poverty. I have students currently reading on Kindergarten through 8th grade levels.
My students are eager to learn; however lack the resources at home to be successful.
With much help, my students can learn to love literacy while improving their reading stamina. Informational texts have a high interest among my students, but are very hard to find within our school system. With a little bit of tender loving care, my students will go far!
My Project
In order to meet each individual student where they are, I incorporate reading small groups on a daily basis in my classroom. The students are grouped based on their reading levels and individual needs, which gives me the opportunity to help each child's individual learning needs. However, I am running out of high interest texts for my students.
I need leveled texts that engage my students, while allowing them to practice crucial reading skills.
I am running out of texts that reach a lot of my lower level students. Some of them are feeling frustrated because they are reading texts that are too difficult and have been around for decades. My students need current and exciting books that reach their levels. Help me help them!
