My Students

My students are in an inner city neighborhood. We are a community of high poverty, in this large city, in Indiana. My students are often overlooked when it comes to funding, but they are very creative, and eager to learn despite the often troubled homes they come from. I want all students to be successful and have the opportunities to succeed in school.

My students love art and often the art room is one of the few places they feel successful.

My students need the self esteem and success that art can provide.

My Project

We need a cart to carry clay, clay tools, and glazes. There are two kilns, but they are located across the hall from the art room and in a storage room. This is also where all the shelves are for ceramic storage. There are no carts to carry materials back and forth. We desperately need this cart to more efficiently transfer our clay materials. The clay alone comes in 50lb. boxes.

The students are in art for an extended time, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades each have art for an hour and a half.

We need the chair slippers to cut down on the noise level, especially during clay time, when the students are more active, scraping the chairs on the floor. This will add to our learning experience in a very significant way.
