My Students

I am not sure you can remember what it was like for you in elementary school. I do remember many things and one of them had nothing to do with movement in the classroom. Well, things have changed for today's students.

My students are in my reading room for reading help on a daily basis.

I have now over 50 students placed in small groups of six or less. What I am finding out with most of my students is that they are fidgety and cannot seem to sit still even for just 30 minutes which is a whole class period for me. I feel that this inability to focus may be the sole cause of their slower reading development. These kids are in the age of technology and always running 100 miles per hour whether at home, school, or at extra-curricular activities. When it is time to sit and focus they are not sure how to deal with that.

My Project

These therapy balls will take place of my students chairs, even mine! They have proven to encourage focusing by allowing children to move slightly while working. They have also proven to create better posture by always ensuring that students have to sit up straight to stay on their ball. No more heads laying on the table!!

I truly believe the balls will encourage my students to focus and motivate them to learn to read.

I want to try anything I can that will help build successful readers. This project, if funded, will be a step in a child's life to show that we care about THEIR physical needs and are willing to support them by taking their learning to their level.
