FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Cotton's classroom raised $309
This project is fully funded
I am a special needs teacher of 3, 4, and 5 year olds at a title one low income school. Young children need a range of activities in which they use all of their senses. They need time to explore and develop ideas by creating something with their hands. I am writing this proposal in hopes to get a Lego table to set up a Lego center in my classroom. The center would be set up for groups of 2 to 3 children working together in a hands-on, problem-solving way. In this center they can learn to behave as young scientists, carrying out simple investigations, calculating and measuring behaviors, and presenting their results. LEGO education's construction is ideal for stimulating the creative and expressive skills of young children.
They would also be learning social skills as they are presented with challenges that they must solve together. At this time my students are having to sit on the floor while working with legos. This sometimes becomes a problem. It would be wonderful to have a table that would be big enough for groups of children to work together, giving them opportunities to share ideas and come up with great solutions and keep their projects from being stepped on, knocked down or destroyed. Their work can stay out as long as they want and become an ongoing project for them to be proud of. This center will be used for many many years and will help many children learn new skills. Thank you for considering my proposal.
