Mrs. Herchenroether from New York NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 25 copies of a review for their upcoming AP English Language and Composition exam in May.

I have pushed all of the desks against the wall. I should have stacked them up, for effect, because my students have not yet earned a seat. This isn't the first day of school, it's been a month. They are floundering. And I am trying to light a fire under them.
The lights are off and a projection of a Willem de Kooning painting fills the screen at the front of the room.
They can earn a desk when they can tell me the subject matter, primary modes of composition, tone and the author's attitude toward the subject matter. My students have never been asked to analyze non-fiction and the rhetorical techniques author craft in this art. I need my students to see that they can do it. If they can do it with abstract painting, written in a language they have no fluency in, they can do it with non-fiction. My students live in Harlem. Many are the first ones in their family to graduate high school, to take an AP course. Will be the first ones to attend college. My job is to prepare them. We are asking for your help. My students are doing everything right. Enrolling in the most rigorous courses offered. Working harder than they have before. They just need one more little push.
Review books will give them the extra edge they need to prepare for their AP exam in May. Practice exams, multiple-choice strategies, rhetorical techniques; the right review book can make all the difference between passing and not-close-enough when it comes to taking a test.
Help my students surpass their neighborhood's expectations, my expectations, even their own expectations for themselves.
Help us set a new bar, reach a new goal. Help us light our fire.
